BANGKOK, Thailand, 1 August 2022 — Global video streaming service Prime Video today announced to be increasing its investment for customers in Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Beginning today, customers in Thailand will find a localized content slate and user experience (in local language) on Prime Video and the Prime Video app. The streaming service also underlined its commitment to the local creative community by revealing the first local Original Comedy Island: Thailand and exclusive licensing deals for local, Korean, and anime titles. Plus, it’s started the development of several local Original productions, such as the film, Three Idiots and A Ghost, based on the novel written by Sal Kim and published by Wattpad with Jungka Bangkok producing, scripted series Metal Casket from writer/director Banjong Pisanthanakun, as well as How to Fake It in Bangkok from Halo Productions with Ananda Everingham executive producing. The news comes as Prime Video launches its first local marketing campaign for Thailand featuring superstar Mario Maurer.

Increasing investment in local Thai Original content and licensed content
The first local Amazon Original Comedy Island: Thailand is a unique, off-the-wall situational improvisation comedy challenge show. In Comedy Island: Thailand, mysterious genius scientist Dr. Ed invites eight famous comedians to bring laughter to a paradise island commune he has created, called Comedy Island. Unknown to them, Dr. Ed has plans to keep them there, and “reprogram” them to become part of his utopian society. Dr. Ed puts them through a series of improvised comedic tasks and challenges during their stay under the guise of bringing laughter to the village. Will the comedians survive the machinations of Dr. Ed, discover his cunning scheme, and find a way out of the Island?. Comedy Island: Thailand will be produced by Liminal Productions, and launch on Prime Video in Thailand and in more than 240 countries and territories around the world in 2023.
The new local Originals are supported by local licensing deals as well as popular exclusive Korean titles and anime hits. Local highlights include The 100 (launching December 12), a thriller set at the height of the pandemic starring Mike Angelo, The Up Rank (launching November 14), a coming-of-age drama thriller featuring Krit Jeerapattananuwong, and My True Friends: The Beginning (streaming today), an action drama based on a true story set in the 80s starring Ryu Vachirawich and Nak Charlie Trairat. Thai customers will also be able to enjoy popular Korean titles such as Nothing Serious (streaming today), a romantic film featuring Jeon Jong-seo, Son Seok-gu and Gong Min-jung, and Toy Soldiers: Fake Men 2 The Complete featuring Julien Kang which will launch on Prime Video in August. The slate is complemented by exclusive anime hits such as Demon Slayer (streaming today), and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (launching December 21), the number one title in Japanese theatres in 2021. All this is on top of Hollywood Blockbusters such as No Time to Die (streaming today), global Amazon Originals like The Boys, The Terminal List, and the highly anticipated The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (launching September 2). On August 5, Prime Video will premiere the new Ron Howard movie Thirteen Lives starring Viggo Mortensen, Colin Farrell, James Teeradon Supapunpinyo, Weir Sukollawat Kanaros, Ploy Pattrakorn Tungsupakul, Tui Thiraphat Sajakul, Two Popetorn Soonthornyanaki and Sahajak Boonthanakit. Thirteen Lives premieres on August 5, and recounts the incredible true story of the tremendous global effort to rescue a Thai soccer team who became trapped in the Tham Luang cave during an unexpected rainstorm.

In the campaign, Prime Video introduces the term “Prime” to local audiences and features the potential ways it can be mispronounced, leading to hilarious situations. The campaign highlights the content pillars that make Prime Video the home of entertainment: strong local Thai content, regional content featuring Korean and anime titles, and U.S. hits.
